Boris and Axel Fund
For student projects on sustainability, sports and inclusivity
Boris Bakker (19) and Axel Verstegen (20) were friends and esteemed, enthusiastic undergraduate Sustainable Innovation students. They were enthusiastic athletes and committed to sustainability and inclusivity.
In early 2022, Boris and Axel died after a skiing accident. Their parents and the TU/e would like to let their vision live on with this fund. Both parties provided a considerable first deposit and hope others will follow their example. This will help us offer TU/e students additional opportunities to share their talents with the world.
Contributions to this fund go toward students’ projects in involving sports, sustainability and/or inclusivity.
More information and our contact information can be found here.
To make sure Boris and Axel and their enthusiasm live on, their parents started this fund. It supports TU/e students in developing or testing their innovative projects and research in the areas of sports, sustainability, and inclusivity.
Boris was a free spirit and lived from day to day. He was an avid and competitive member of badminton club Panache. Axel was a person who connects others and was just as sporty as his friend. During some months he traveled back and forth to Nijmegen 5 times a week to play basketball in the premier U20 league.
Both liked to think "outside the box" and were enthusiastic about innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity. In their busy sports and social lives, they also made a lot of time to be involved in our student sports center.
Contributions to this fund go toward students’ projects in involving sports, sustainability and/or inclusivity.
